What Is Essay Editing

What Is Essay Editing Essay editing is the process of rectifying mistakes in an essay. Before the essay is submitted, it should be revised thoroughly to check for any grammatical errors or vague phrases. Vague phrases are sentences that cannot be understood easily and require a lot scrutinizing before the meaning can be established. After writing an essay, the headache is trying to conclude it, arriving at an arguable thesis or organizing the ideas. Students find this process challenging and confusing and end up making petty mistakes that cost them a lot of marks. Here are a few guidelines that may help in the essay editing process; 1. Read out your essay Trying to sieve out your mistakes by reading your essay might not be such an effective method to use. It is quite possible that your eye will skip out on common mistakes that will ruin your essay. The best way to go about this is by reading your essay out loud. Where your eyes have failed, your ears will succeed. Reading out loud will help you hear the mistakes made. 2. Counter check if all your words help in bringing out the meaning Make sure that your choice of words adds meaning to your essay. Every word should be adding meaning to your essay in the sense that your essay is straight and to the point. Keep checking for phrases like My own personal opinion. This phrase is an example of phrases that should be avoided at all costs. Ask yourself what the word personal means then check the phrase and you will see its redundancy. Using Own personal with my only ruins your essay. Opt for using My opinion instead. Also, check if you have used excessive use of words to explain something that might be explained with just a few. Avoid using excessive words just to meet the word count limit. 3. Keep your language simple and direct Using complex words will only end up confusing your readers even more. Be specific and explain every point with clarity. A sentence like The evils of the society will affect our resources negatively will end up ruining your essay. Your readers will want to know what evils? What resources? Which societies? Remember your readers want to know exactly what it is you are trying to put across. All your points should be clear. 4. Avoid using complex words Most students end up using complex words with the aim of trying to sound smart. Inappropriately elevated language can end up in nouns getting used as verbs. Instead of sounding smart, you end making a fool out of yourself. If you find yourself adding words just to sound smart, consider revising your essay. 5. Make sure your essay sentences are appropriately placed It is quite normal to feel bad while cutting out sentences that you are most fond of in your essay. If you happen to see yourself in such a situation, remind yourself that a meaningful and relevant essay is better than having one with sentences that make no sense. Great writers will not be afraid to get rid of those kinds of sentences. Essay editing requires a lot of scrutiny and revision. It is not as complex as it sounds; all students need to keep in mind is how to deliver an essay with few irregularities.

America Under Attack

America Under Attack America Under Attack On September 11, 2001 the streets of New York were soaked in ash, streams of tears fled down peoples cheeks, and the courageous fought the waves of flames. Over 5,000 innocent American citizens were killed at the hands of terrorist. Children were left orphaned; spouses were left widowed tearing families apart forever. Our country united trying to put the pieces of the puzzle back together. No longer can the people of New York sleep soundly, their eyes are forever haunted with terror, and their hearts are filled with grief. Do we deserve to live in this constant state of fear? America is under attack. We must regain our respect, and avenge those who have crossed the line we have drawn. We must go in and win the war against terrorism, and retaliate against those who have caused such heartache on our nation. "This enemy attacked not just our people, but all freedom-loving people everywhere in the world." United States(BBC News par.3) America has been fighting aga inst the war of terrorism for quiet some time. An incident, which is forever haunted in our hearts, took place on December 7, 1941. "Over 2,400 American soldiers lives were taken from them." (History par. 1) A terrorist attack was made on Pearl Harbor, killing those who fought for our security. The World Trade Center has been threatened before, taking once again innocent lives, placing more anxiety and fear in our lives. It has been proven that the only way to show that America is serious when it comes to its people is to take control, and go to the extremes. The acts or retaliation on Hiroshima displayed that America is willing stand up to any terrorist attack, to protect us, the people of the United States."Many of today's tyrants are gripped by...

Property Investment Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words - 1

Property Investment Analysis - Essay Example In a series of cases, the wording of the lease agreements on rent review clauses was held to be upward only. In the case of Royal Insurance Property Services Ltd v Cliffway Ltd2 the lease agreement allowed the landlords to serve a notice on an increase in rent. One of the major questions that the Court had to address in this case was whether the lease allowed for a downwards review. The conclusion in this instance was that based upon the wording of the clause, provision existed only for upward revision, with only the landlord being able to initiate rent changes. Similarly, in the case of Standard Life Assurance v Unipath Ltd3a majority of the Court of Appeal ruled that the provision in the lease agreement pertaining to rent review was an upwards only clause. In this case the Court also observed that the purpose of a rent review clause cannot necessarily be assumed to be on the basis of anticipating changes in money; it might also represent the desire on the part of investors to protect themselves against risk and allow for the certainty of income contained in a rent review clause. Another problem that has been created in the sphere of rent reviews is that they provide for the landlord to initiate a rent review process by issuing a â€Å"trigger notice† and the validity of such notices has been an issue in the cases of Norwich Union Life Insurance Society v Sketchley plc.4 Letters from the tenants have been held to be valid counter notices in the cases of Nunes v Davies Laing and Dick Ltd5and British Rail Pension Trustee Co Ltd v Cardshops Ltd6 where the open market rental rate was the subject of dispute between the landlord and tenant. The underlying commercial purpose behind the inclusion of a rent review clause was spelt out by the Vice Chancellor in the case of British gas Corporation v Universities Superannuation Scheme Ltd7 who stated: â€Å"in the absence of special circumstances, it is proper to give

Wind energy Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Wind energy - Research Paper Example In addition to that, sources of energy are readily depleting. Nevertheless, electricity is the most basic requirement of the contemporary society (Ummets). There is dire need to look out for cost effective and environment friendly sources if energy like wind energy. Wind is a type of solar energy, which is formed by the uneven distribution of heat coming from the sun in the atmosphere. Different factors contribute to the uneven distribution of heat that include but are not limited to the earth’s rotation, and uneven surface of earth. The terrain of earth, the cover of vegetation on it and the water reservoirs all serve to control the pattern of flow of wind. If the wind turbines are used to harvest this flow of wind, the motion energy can serve as a potential source of electricity. Wind power and wind energy are terms with the same meaning that explain the process of use of wind to produce the mechanical power (Wing Energy Guide). It is essentially a power which is gained from wind (Smith). When the wind turbines are installed, the kinetic energy contained in wind is transformed into the mechanical energy, which can then be utilized to do various kinds of works like pumping water and crushing grains.

Human Resource Management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Human Resource Management - Research Paper Example According to Armstrong (2008), with the compilation of the tasks to the human resource department, the scope has also enhanced; hiring, training, etc. all have come well under the umbrella of human resource department. One of the most challenging tasks for human resource department today is the fact that workforce within organization comprises of cross-national individuals i.e. people coming from various backgrounds, cultures, countries, etc. This essay is about how the demographics of a workforce are changing or have changed over a period of last decade or so i.e. identifying the trends and how it poses a threat or otherwise, implying to the human resource management. The following section is about the trends occurring and witnessed amongst the demographics of the workforce at a global scale. The attempt of making the world a global village, in accordance with Mathis (2007), has brought about a lot of changes in the global landscape – particularly there has been a rising trend amongst individuals wanting to move away from their home country in an attempt for enhanced earning, improved life style, and increasing the quality of living for their families in their own regions. As a complement to the same, organizations have also initiated the program of cross boundary hiring, with their own reasons to follow. Firstly, as stated by Bateman (2010) having cross boundary hiring is expensive, which is the downturn of the same; however, in the long run, it is cheaper primarily because in third world countries, very talented human resources are very cheap and easily available. Consider the live example whereby employment posts are held mainly by Asians in countries offering bright prospect of jobs such as UK, US and the Middle East; here individuals get good earnings, mainly due to the currency differential, they earn a lot more then they can do in their home town, and

Life Cycle Analysis of Compact Discs

Life Cycle Analysis of Compact Discs Making products like CDs and DVDs consumesnatural resources, produces waste, anduses energy. CDs and DVDs are created from many different materials, including metals, plastics, and dyes. The discs are packaged in clear or colored plastic cases or cardboard boxes, wrapped inplastic, and sent to distribution centers and retail outlets around the world. If properly stored andhandled, most CDs and DVDs will last for decades, and probably centuries. Depending on theircondition, unwanted discs can be reused or recycled instead of thrown away, saving energy andvaluable resources.(Mastny, 2004) Kevin Ye Environmental impacts as a result from the various stages of compact discs Raw material extraction First step of producing the compact discs is extraction of raw material. These raw materials include aluminum, gold, silver, nickel which required mined and refinement, as well as plastic obviously. In this step, waste produced from mining is disposed of into bodies of water. Extraction of crude oil to produce plastic (for packing and the discs itself) creates waste and toxic chemicals. (Please see Appendix) The energy used to acquire raw materials includes mining and extracting. Materials are extracted from the earth in the form of Bauxite ore, which has 15-20% Aluminum (0.902 J/g). The embodied energy for Aluminum is 211 GJ/ton and it includes all the energy required to make the material. The process includes ore mining, ore crushing, and ore transportation. Mining and crushing entails machinery use, which requires mechanical and electrical energy. (Liao, 2014) In conclusion, the impact to the environment brought by producing CDs is already obvious and prominent, at both energy consumption perspective and wastes producing. Manufacturing Smelting aluminum generates fluoride waste. Hydroelectric power stations release greenhouse gasses and damage the ecosystem processing in different locations contribute to waste from transportation namely greenhouse gasses. Manufacturing and processing raw materials follow mining. First, an injection molding machine creates the core of the disk from Polycarbonate (plastic). It is then coated with aluminum and metal layers through a process called sputtering. After both sides of the disk are completed, theyre combined with a hot melt(specific heat capacity at 1.3 J/g). The metal is shaped and rolled. A CD/DVD undergoes a further manufacturing process which a specialized computer embeds digital information onto the disk through tiny indents made by several tons of pressure. The exterior of the DVD is then coated with a layer of lacquer, a transparent material designed to repel dust and resist fingerprints and scratch marks. Lastly, the disk is decorated with additional layers by ink for labeling or artworks (Liao, 2014). During this step, the damage to the ecosystem kept raising. Distribution The European market for music CDs is expanding rapidly, with almost 2.9 billion compact discs produced in Western Europe in 1998. In 2000, more than 700 compact disc factories were operating worldwide (Mastny, 2004). We can see that the development of manufacturing CD and the demand kept rising worldwide. It helps the music industry and others entertainment industries to distribute all their artworks to spread around the world. However, the energy consumed by the transportation of these products is also visible. The most important thing is that, each month, more than 45 tons of CDs become obsolete-outdated, useless, or unwanted. Each year, more than 55 million boxes of software go to landfills and incinerators, and people throw away millions of music CDs (Mastny, 2004). Especially nowadays, with the development of digital music and videos, the demand directly falls. The wasted energy and produced wastes given by transporting these products are not totally paid by the market, and they are literally damaging the environment. Its totally claimed that this industry is having a situation that supply offered is way higher than the demand from the market. Product use Energy is embodied in maintaining, using and reusing CD/DVDs. DVD players use 15 Watts of energy and are considered a stable product. They can last for decades when treated with care and not exposing them to humidity, extreme temperatures, and light. Energy can be conserved by reusing and maintaining CDs/DVDs (Liao, 2014). Thus, in this stage of using the CDs or DVDs, it doesnt consume that much of energy and produce waste. Disposal In the past decades, most of dumped compact discs go to landfills or incinerators. However, with the CD industries receiving impacts from digital memories industries, the quantity of CD production and disposal have been reduced a lot. And apparently there are better ways of dealing with useless unwanted discs. Reuse is the best option for DVDs because it generates the least amount of waste. Unwanted DVDs can be resold, given away, or donated to schools, libraries and other organizations. Moreover, there are a lot of innovative designs such as using unwanted discs into new decorations on walls. Synopsis about how the research has impacted my purchase decision-making By conducting this life cycle research of CDs, I was deeply impacted. I was a collector of CD music albums. I collected more than 200 CDs in my home. I purchased CDs and DVDs by my preferences. As long as I like the music of the singer or the movie, I would definitely purchase those CDs and DVDs. However, by learning the fact that producing compact discs and disposal of them would create a huge damage to our environment, I have decided to try not to buy new CDs and DVDs anymore. I will support those amazing music or video by purchasing digital albums or watching them on paid platforms, such as Amazon.com, Netflix. Comparing Flatland and Little House on the Prairie Essay -- Comparison

Flatland and Little House on the Prairie Simplicity clashes with stress. Living with the bare necessities, the working class families keep themselves happy. The husband works while the wife cooks the meals and takes care of the children. No desire for excessive amounts of m oney exists, just a desire for a strong bond within the family. Upper-class families or families striving for success invite stress into their lives. Too much stress from greedy desires of power creates tension in homes. The higher people c limb up society's ladder, the more likely their families are to fall apart. Flatland, by Edwin Abbott, presents the two dimensional world as a society with mostly working class families. A. Square, the narrator, enlightene d by a three dimensional experience longs to tell of the new knowledge revealed to him. Having no desire to learn of this foreign land called "Spaceland," the citizens of Flatland have A Square locked up. From past experiences, peo ple in Flatland know that new ideas cause turmoil amongs t themselves. Focusing on having the basics for survival and a strong love within the family produces a peaceful and less stressful environment. The lngles family from Little House on the Prairie, a popular television series, demonstrates the working class. Mr. Ingles works while Mrs. Ingles takes care of the household duties. The family displays a genuin e happiness. They have no modern utilities, but they have each other. They have a strong love within their family, and worldly materials serve little importance to them. A typical family today displays tremendous difference s compared to the Ingles family. Jealously and competitiveness play a major part in showing these varia... ...understandable why the people of Flatland do not have an interest in knowing about Spaceland. They want to keep their lives as they have them. Why did society not reject change? This possibly cannot be answered. Flatland citizens intelligently chose the right turn. Growth in knowledge no doubt brings great new opportunities, but the consequences are not worth it. Who knew that by trying to improve a family's status in society would lead to the destruction of a household? Greed starts off ugly and only gets uglier. The problem with society succeeding belongs to the fact that society does not know when to stop. There are some families that have kept love as the center of their household. These families provide a hope that this "cycle" of selfish, self-gaining, individuals will eventually return to the days of Little House on the Prairie.

Certainty vs Doubt Essay Essay

The argument between certainty and doubt is highly controversial. Despite the side that people have accustomed themselves to, there are still pros and cons to both. A person’s doubt can easily distract them from reaching their full potential, while it can also aide in making a more realistic and achievable decision because with doubt they are able to question their abilities and eliminate the options that aren’t as feasible. Whereas certainty can misguide someone into the delusion of great powers, it can also assist them in attaining a massive success because they are giving themselves the option of fathoming an idea so great that initiates a surge of passion that tells them they can achieve such greatness. Despite the seemingly equivalent pros and cons between doubt and certainty, certainty is definitely the best mindset to have when trying to find triumph in one’s life. Isaiah Stock, an APLAC student at University of North Carolina, said, â€Å"Think of certai nty and doubt as parts of an automobile. Certainty is considered to be the accelerator, while doubt is the steering wheel. You can get nowhere without driving –certainty—but without steering through the impediments in your way –doubt—, you will surely crash and burn.† Again, emphasizing the crucial balance between doubt and certainty, this metaphor is an almost acceptable depiction of how they work together because yes, without certainty one is likely not going to get very far in life and without doubt an individual is likely to fail. This metaphor is accurate in all its parts, but it is missing one important aspect and that is that failure is not the end and can only help to guide someone to make better fitted decisions. So with that in view, having the mindset of certainty is clearly a more efficient way of finding success. One could say that â€Å"having doubt is a part of human nature, that from birth we are curios [and that] to question anything and everything that we want to know more about is perfectly acceptable† (Christen, Nicole â€Å"Certainty vs Doubt†). This is only partly true due to the fact that just because doubt is part of human nature, it does not mean that it is not controllable or that it is, in a sense, the best choice between certainty and doubt because all that this idea supports  is how we as humans have to make decisions. It does not support the idea that having doubt is a better way to live one’s life than having certainty. In conclusion, despite the contradictive and also supportive qualities that both doubt and certainty have when compared to one another, believing that one can reach for something that will likely be more challenging to grasp is and will always be more gratifying in the end, even if the individual fails because it allows growth in decision making skills and one’s knowledge of their maximum abilities. Doubt does not allow an individual to reach their untapped potential because they do not find it feasibly possible and thus never attempt to see if may just be.

Literacy and the Politics of Education Summary Essay

In the article, â€Å"Literacy and the Politics of Education,† author C. H. Knoblauch touches on a deeper understanding about the concept of literacy. His perspective conveys that literacy is much more than what society usually perceives it as; just reading and writing. Clearly laid out in his essay are four notable types of literacy which are: functional literacy, cultural literacy, critical literacy, and personal growth literacy. Knoblauch chose this subject in order to express his frustration on societies and their lack of motivation to excel being literate. He feels that America is becoming more illiterate since the development of new technology. Not that more Americans are forgetting how to read and write, but that more are failing to use literacy as a means of enriching themselves and furthering themselves through life. The most prevalent form of literacy, especially in the United States, is functional literacy. It exists not as an art, not to paint a picture, or to express emotions. Functional literacy is, in all scenarios, a technical basis of reading and writing; just enough to get by in life. Functionalists will read what concerns them. And they certainly only write what they must, whether it is a legal document or sending a simple email. It is the literacy that exists in the very basic everyday functions for people. Cultural Literacy is just as the title suggests. It is literacy that is dependent on the individual or groups of individuals. It is passed down from generation to generation. The idea is that people rate literacy with judgment values free of influence from any government. This could most purely be portrayed as an American farming family, living far from the nearest town or city. The children are home-schooled so now the parents’ literacy is passed to the children. But more than that, the literacy passed also â€Å"includes the awareness of the cultural heritage. † (Knoblauch) The third type of literacy noted is called critical literacy. This type stems from the Marxist theory, and is also deemed as a negative in our American society. It is the type of literacy that motivates people to urge for change in their current society. It refutes dominant organizations, and urges that all people have equal opportunities. The final form of literacy, the personal growth belief, states that language is a tool to communicate the greater inner power of the human mind. This type of literacy is connected to the way humans develop cognitive thinking. It thrives on achievement and power. This type of literacy argues for the sake of literacy itself. It wants individuals to embrace literacy and let their minds wander into their own imaginations. In conclusion, literacy indeed takes many forms. â€Å"Literacy is one of those mischievous subjects. †(Knoblauch).

Movie Review of Bullworth essays

Movie Review of Bullworth essays Movie Review of Bullworth Warren Beaty makes a heroic attempt to tell people what they need to hear in the dramatic comedy, Bullworth. As the director and star of the movie, he portrays a senator, in the midst of a suicidal breakdown, saying exactly what he thinks rather than what he is supposed to say. An unpredictable movie, Bullworth kept my attention until the very end. The casting was well done, with Mr. Beaty, Hally Barry and several other big stars appearing throughout the movie. And the idea for a senator to tell nothing but the truth and not politically correct is nothing less than phenomenal. But, while a great concept for a movie, it was over stereotyped and tastelessly vulgar in too many scenes. The movie begins with Senator Bullworths breakdown. Warren Beaty portrays the ideal senator with a warm, friendly smile, handsome face, with family values that are sure to get him re-elected in the primaries. This is the most believable character for Warren Beaty, especially after his publicity in the last presidential election as being a possible candidate for President. Shortly after the breakdown, however, Beatys persona flips around and suddenly he no longer plays the professional senator. With the new personality, comes a new character that now tells the citizens the truth about what politics is all about. After some exposure to a different lifestyle, Bullworth now uses rapping in his new campaign of truth. Hilarious at first, the rapping soon became painful to watch and listen to. It was way over used and was too well written to be as spontaneous as the movies writers wanted you to think. About the same time as the rapping is first introduced, Hally Barry, as Nina, becomes Bullworths love interest. Although already sounding stereotypical, this was a great opportunity for the story to part from the usual one race/age/cla...

Joe Salatino, President of Great Northern American Case Study - 1

Joe Salatino, President of Great Northern American - Case Study Example As the discussion highlights understanding the perception of people is essentially important. The role that perception of a customer plays in a business transaction is very much significant for the growth of the organization, as it is due to the perception of an individual which affects the outcomes of the conclusion that an individual draws on a particular good, product or service. In the case study of Joe Salatino, the President of Great Northern American, it is evident that the understanding of the perception of the customers is essentially important for the employees working in Joe’s firm. As it is acknowledged before, the firm of Joe Salatino is a marketing firm that deals with selling and providing goods and services to more than 60,000 customers and offices in the United States of America. The firm is comprised of 30 sales team employees, who work efficiently towards achieving the major goals of the organization, Great Northern American. Due to the still completion in t he market from the competitors of the firm, it is important that the employees realize the needs and wants of the product and services that the firm delivers. Customer of the firm derives the perception about the product from the way an employee projects the product to them. When employees of the firm are able to effectively understand the way of thinking of the customer, then they stand a chance to control the customer’s perception and, accordingly, deviate from the process of conclusions made by the customers to benefit the growth process of the organization. It is important to procure different ways to understand the thinking of the customers. Active, attentive listening, which implies listening to the customer and also proving adequate response to their queries, effectively helps in understanding a person’s thinking and judging their perception.

Conflict of laws Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Conflict of laws - Essay Example It is apparent that in the event the employer is based in Paris, France, and the business conducted from France, the French courts have jurisdiction in this case. Thus it would not be possible to suggest English courts in this case, and this has to be settled, either with French, or EU laws. (Etgen Reitz 2006, p.90). 1. The part that deals with the claim of Jones, the ex- marketing employee of LSEL in UK who is seeking commission and compensation in lieu of notice of termination of his services. The main aspect is whether English or EU laws could be applied in this case. 2. The second part would deal with whether Reilly could have a substantive claim for alleged defective computer console which the company is not willing to settle, claiming that the fault lay with the installer and not the product. Whether English law would be able to be used in this case. constraints. It is indeed to the benefit of employers that French state agencies have the powers to intercede in, and even authorize dismissals should it so warrant. However, it is also seen that it is not difficult for any employee to initiate a lawsuit against his ex employers under labour courts. Labour Relations Courts (Conseils de Prudhommes) are generally made up of lay judges who are elected from the ranks of employer/employee organisations. It is rare that the plaintiff be other than an employee and just as rare that claims be dismissed with no award whatsoever being made against the employer.† In this case, English laws may not apply, since his employment is held by French Company registered and controlled in France. However, it may be necessary to consider the European Laws on employment which could possibly impinge upon this contract. Notice period: By far, the most important aspect of any existing employment is that of either the employer or the employee serving notice before leaving the employment. Under French law, it is one month’s notice
